Professor Luis Fernández-Vega receives the “Healthcare Excellence Award”04/07/2013
Professor Luis Fernández-Vega, medical director at the Institute and president of the Spanish Society of Ophthalmology (SEO in Spanish), received the 5th July the “Healthcare Excellence Award” that recognises the search for quality and excellence by leading personalities from the healthcare, social and scientific community.
The European Institute for Health and Social Welfare, (collaborating centre with the World Health Organisation) granted the award after the ‘Forum on high blood pressure, diabetes and therapeutic education for patients’ that took place at the European Institute’s headquarters in Madrid at 12:30h.
100 eminent personalities from the healthcare, political and business fields attended the event, including Mr José Ignacio González, president of the Regional Government of Madrid, who was in charge of presenting the award.
Within the scientific contribution of Prof Luis Fernández-Vega they wanted to highlight that he can be considered the one to have introduced transparent crystalline surgery in Spain, as well as pioneer in the use of multifocal intraocular lenses.
